Who is a “regular volunteer” under AB 506?

The statutory definition matters because many youth organizations have occasional parents and recurring coaches in the same roster.

Business & Professions Code §18975 defines a regular volunteer as a volunteer who is 18 or older, has direct contact with or supervision of children, and exceeds the statutory service thresholds of 16 hours per month or 32 hours per year.

Do not automatically treat every parent on a mailing list as covered or, conversely, assume a recurring volunteer is exempt because they are unpaid. Track role, direct contact/supervision and expected time, then escalate uncertain classifications.
